Mobile Photography
What is Mobile Photography?
Mobile photography is the description of what is the art of photography within mobile devices. Mobile photography is very popular with many people and photographers particularly because of its portability. Mobile photography can be done with mobile phones, iPod's iPad's and other mobile devices. Taking photos with a mobile device is very helpful in the way that most mobiles are highly developed nowadays and have ways of which photos can instantly be shared to other people. There is no fuss, and no dealing with high technology, it is probably the most basic but effective type of photography you can get. Advantages of Mobile Photography:

Oliver LangOne of the mobile photographers I have looked at is Oliver Lang. I liked his work the best out of the few I looked at because in my opinion, I think he expands on his ideas the best. The images he takes are mostly taken in black and white, but this to me is not boring and predictable like some others would think. I believe that Oliver Lang has chosen to make the majority of his images black and white simply because it is his style and is his way that he chooses to photograph. It is for this reason that his work inspires me.

Solo Tasks
Two tasks we had to do for homework was to take our own set of mobile photographs and then post them on either our tumblr blogs or on our websites. The first set of images I created had a theme of colour and so using my favourite colour, I decided to take images that all had some sort of red object in it somewhere.
These images were taken on my phone and edited with an app that I have called "PicStory".Personally, I don't think these images are to the best of my ability. I like them, but I think that there is definitely room for improvement. The ideas aren't the best although I still did try to make them as creative as I possibly could.
The image I like the best is the one that was taken with a collection of pens on a table. I like this image the best because it was the first image I took and so I put the most effort into it. I like the way I tipped the screen to the side so that the image has the slanted, off balance effect to it. I also like the way I edited the image because I think that the effect I chose to suit the image went very well with it rather than the others that I had to choose from. The image that I dislike the most would have to be the second image I took as I think it lacks imagination completely. It is just a scarf wrapped around a lamp post; nothing special. I think the effect that I used was okay, but I could have picked a better one to make the image stand out more. All in all, I think the image is just too ordinary and needed more work put into it. To improve, I think next I would focus on putting more time into my work and not taking pictures of just anything, but only the best. Next time I would to tap into my more creative mind set and make sure that all the pictures are relevant to my task set. I could also improve by taking more time editing my images; using the right effects could even the worst image look decent and so next time I will need to keep this in mind. |
Here is my second set of images. These were base on the theme of patterns and once again were edited by PicStory. I think that these images are better than my first set. I took more time on these images and actually I think they have improved compared to my first set, but this is still just my opinion.
These images were also taking on my mobile device; my phone. I think that these images have a lot more creativity to them than my first set. I took them with more time and precaution and I also took these images over the course of a few days which allowed me to expand on my ideas.
The image I like the best in this set is the third one there, with the red and gold ornaments. I like this image the best because once again I think it was the one I put the most effort into. I like how the image is slightly blurred as that was the effect I was going for. The effect I used when editing was one of which enhanced the key features of the image and so even though it is blurred, it is still very defined. There isn't really an image in this set that I dislike particularly, however I still believe that there is room for improvement. To improve, I think I still need to focus on working on my levels of creativity in order for my images to be the best of my ability. To do so, I need to plan out my photography and consider key features like lighting, positioning etc. |
More Solo Tasks
More solo work done was on a trip to the Somerset House exhibitions. During this trip, everyone in the GCSE Photography class was given an iPod Touch to use as the mobile device that we would take pictures with as part of our coursework. We had two apps on the iPod's that we could choose from to take our pictures with. One was Hueless; a black and white based app, and the other was Cross Process; based on colour. I personally chose to use Cross Process the majority of the time as I think personally I work better with colour.
I like these images a lot and I personally think they showed a lot of creativity. The images that I took were of anything that I saw that I thought looked interesting. I did not have any particular theme that I based my images off, just that they were all taken as street photography photographs. |
|
During my photography lesson, I decided to add some more images to my mobile photography set so I went out and took some more on the iPod I was given. This time, I only used the Hueless app as I had barely any black and white images in my other sets of mobile photography. The theme of this set of photographs was based on patterns, although not all patters in this set were obvious, they were still there
Personally, I think this set is one of my bests and I really enjoyed taking these images. I think that the images fit my chosen theme well (patterns) and I believe that I used more imagination and creativity in these than I did in my previous sets of work. I believe that I thought harder about the images I was taking and that's why this set of photos ended up better than the others. A few of my images that I took towards the end of this set however had been done once again using the Cross Process app because I still wanted this set of images to have a variety of techniques, but the majority of these images have been done using the Hueless app. |
