Light PaintingLight painting is a photographic technique of which images are made by using a hand-held light source like a torch for example. Light painting works by having a camera on a stand to keep it still and then setting the shutter to go off after how ever many seconds you like. After doing this, once the button has been pressed, you should emit a flash before using your hand held light source to draw whatever image you like.
Light painting is a very interesting photographic technique that can be traced back as early as 1914, known to be first used by Frank Gilbreth and his wife: Lillian Moller Gilbreth. The technique spikes many photographers interests because of its very special and unique qualities. It is quite easy to do and yet still makes a great image. To the side are some examples. |

Photo Editing
After taking these light photography images, I then used iPhoto to edit and moderate my images in a way of which suited my personal taste. I experimented with light, colour and temperature. I also experimented by rotating pictures to change the direction of its original position. After finishing with these experiments, I had completed my moderation with what I liked the best and managed to create 3 separate images. These 3 images are shown below.
Evaluation
These images were ones that I felt worked the best in both ways. Both ways being that one way was a complete light painting image and the other was a moderation with computerised effects.I felt the light painting images worked very well because these ones were the most experimental out of our light painting set. We didn't just play around with the light in a random way and create useless squiggles, we tried to be inventive and created images that had some sort of purpose and included ourselves in the images, creating light objects to surround us. I think that this worked particularly well because it made the image more interesting to look at. However, after looking at these images, I thought that they could still be explored further and that's why I chose these ones to be edited on iPhoto. As said before, I experimented a lot until I found what I believed what was the perfect final image. But I still believe that these images aren't exactly perfect and could still be taken even further than they already have been as there is always room for improvement. To improve, I think I would take these images and look at using some types of effects that I have not yet used. This could either create an even better image, or could ruin the image completely, and if it did, then this information would be part of the next evaluation.
